What do you think of as the end of Summer? Is it Labor Day or Sept 22? Is it the end of warm weather or the first time you pull out a heavy sweater? When do you eat your last ice cream cone? Is there a summer swimsuit you stash for the winter?
What Difference Does It Make?
Summer is often seen as a time for relaxation, a break from work, and a chance to have fun. Like recess at school is a time to let our minds rest and our bodies expend some energy, Summer can be a time of recharging.
- Summer can be a period when our subconscious minds work on concepts and problems that annoyed us last May.
- Summer can provide opportunities for increased or more diverse active pursuits.
- Summer can be a time to relax, to chill out, to sit and contemplate the waves and the breeze, the birds and the trees. It helps make us more observant of our world.
- Summer is a time for increased connections, like visits with friends and family.
- Summer is a time of discovery as we increase our travel.
Summer can make a difference
Harvest Time
Then Summer departs. The hours of sunlight diminish. The pace of life changes. Farmers harvest the crops they’ve nurtured, pruned, fed, and watered earlier in the year. Recess is over.
Can we harvest what we grew in the last few months? Can we sell the ideas we nurtured, fed, and watered this Summer? Do we have things we need to prune for better results next year? Did we discover some of our “produce” needs more food and water or more room to breathe?
At whatever time we consider Summer to be over, let’s try not to let the energy, concepts, solutions, and innovations disappear. Let’s hold on to the enthusiasm for creativity we grew this summer.
“Going . . . . going . . . . gone” is not what we want to say about an inspiration we had. Let’s allow Summer to make a difference. Let’s harvest what sprouted this Summer.
